When you buy a new computer it is worth the while taking the time to learn how to use the computer applications and software. It is amazing how many people know very little about the software applications on their computer. Quite a lot of people are scared of using computer software applications because they think it is too complicated for them to learn. However, this belief is making them lose out on using their computer to its full potential.
Most computer software applications these days have become more user friendly than they were a few years ago when you needed a degree in computer science to understand it. However, today there is no excuse as using Windows can be easily mastered. All it takes is a little practice.
This article will outline the simple but very convenient task of how you can rename a file that you have already created. The longer you use your computer it is most likely that you will be creating many folders. As time goes on certain folder names are no longer relevant. When this occurs it is best to change them to a folder name that is more relevant. A common one for example is using dates.
Follow these steps to rename an existing folder:
Step 1
The first step is open up Windows Explorer by right clicking on the Start button at the bottom left corner of the screen. A drop down menu will appear with a list of options. From that list of options choose Explorer.
Step 2
After clicking Explorer you will arrive at the Explorer window. What you need to do is find the folder you want to rename. When you have found the folder you need to change then, right click with your mouse. A drop down box will appear with a list of options. From these options choose Rename.
Step 3
When you choose Rename the title of the folder that you have selected will be highlighted. Place your cursor in the highlighted box and begin to retype or edit the exiting title to the new title. When the folder has been renamed you can click outside the edit box and save the changes you have made.
Just a point to remember is that you cannot have two of the same document types with the same name. Each folder name must be unique. As you can see this is quite easy to do and the more you practice the easier it will become.
